Popular comedian BasketMouth reveals he's a shy person during an exclusive interview

Popular comedian, Basketmouth in an interview recently has revealed that he’s a very shy person and that he does comedy just to make people laugh.

The award-winning comedian also spoke on life as a comedian and his expected reaction from his fans, comedy industry, Nigeria and from himself.

See Excerpts from the interview below:

First of all, I know you are a very busy man and I consider it quite a privilege that you granted us this interview.

As a young man, Basket did you aspire to be a comedian or is it something that you stumbled along the way?

I’ve always wanted to be a comedian since I coincidentally bumped into… I think it was Eddie Murphy’s delirious performance, this was in… I think 1994, yeah 94.

I saw the tape… the VHS tape so I was like thrilling some of my friends, just making fun, cracking jokes and my elder brother’s friend was watching me and called me and was like dude have you seen Eddie Murphy’s performance? Then, I did not know Eddie Murphy was a standup comedian I thought he was just an actor cause the only thing I had seen then was coming to America.

I knew this is what I wanted to do and everything then just started… you know, The path just opened, and I just started the journey.

That’s wonderful, that means you were doing comedy when you were in Uniben yes?

Way before I started… before I even got to Uniben

How was it like performing then at a time when comedy wasn’t really as big as it now in Nigeria?

it was… the same thing, comedy gives you that same feeling of satisfaction the fact that you create an idea or a story in your head and you bring it to life and you tell people…

You know whether it’s from your experience or stories you’ve heard, and you make it a joke and you tell them and they actually you know laugh.

It’s that satisfaction that you’ve delivered the goods but the only difference between then and now is the fact that then it was a little bit tougher because it was a new act and people were just beginning to accept so… unlike now that’s it is now like a life style everyone wants to be funny everyone is now making skits.

The difference was, it wasn’t really embraced by that many people support wasn’t that much so the hustle was different, yeah the hustle was different but it’s still the same satisfactory feeling you get whenever you drop that joke or get that laughter

Candidates for 2018/2019 NNPC/CHEVRON left stranded after failure to write the Exam

It was a bizarre experience on Saturday 1/08/2018 for students who came to write the 2018/2019 NNPC/CHEVRON JV Scholarship Examination at the ACE International Institute.

As most candidates who were supposed to sit for the exams couldn't for reasons unknown to them.

From the information gathered by armzyville's blog, some of the students told us that the exams was schedule for 9am and 11am and was to last for one hour.

  • Yet most of the candidates could not write till 5pm, we learnt that some others waited till 9pm before they were told that the exams has been rescheduled and a new date will be communicated to them.

The exam which was to cover for South South and South East region fell short of expectations as most candidates who came from far places like Lagos, Kaduna, Anambra etc were left stranded without any form of accommodation.

It was also learnt that out of 1000 candidates who were supposed to sit for the scholarship  examination only 200 were able to take the exam.

Buhari's China Trip is to Plot Rigging 2019

Press release
31/8/2018

Buhari's China Trip is to Plot Rigging of 2019 elections, Saraki’s Removal, alleges Timi Frank

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has faulted a trip to China on Friday by President Muhammadu Buhari and his party men under the guise of participating in the 7th Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

Frank in a statement in Abuja described the trip as a decoy to plot how to rig the 2019 general elections in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and also perfect the renewed plot to remove the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki.

He insisted that the President has once again demonstrated his intolerance for members of the opposition political parties by only selecting APC Governors and other party cronies for the trip instead of availing competent businessmen and women of the opportunity to attend the FOCAC Summit irrespective of their party affiliations.

Recall that the Presidency had on Thursday released names of APC Governors, Senators and cabinet members who will be on the President’s entourage to include Governors Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, Akinwunmi Ambode, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar and Rochas Anayo Okorocha of Bauchi, Lagos, Jigawa and Imo States respectively.

Others are Senators Abdullahi Adamu, George Akume, Godswill Akpabio and Aliyu Wamakko representing Nasarawa, Benue, Akwa Ibom and Sokoto States respectively.

Also accompanying the President are: the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama; Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi; Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola; Minister of FCT, Muhammad Bello; Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah; Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udoma Udo Udoma; Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu; Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, and Minister of State, Aviation, Hadi Sirika.

Others are the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno; the Director General, National Intelligence Agency, Ahmed Abubakar; and the Group Managing Director, NNPC, Maikanti Baru.

But while querying the entourage in a statement on Friday, Comrade Frank said the trip could not have been in the interest of Nigeria but that of the ruling APC on how to rig the 2019 general elections and perfect plans to effect change of leadership in the Senate.

Frank challenged the Presidency to tell Nigerians why only APC Governors, Senators, Ministers and others were selected for the trip if not "to perfect their plot evil against Nigeria's democracy?”

"Nigerians will recall that during the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, no such trip was made without the presence of opposition Governors and Lawmakers.

"Although, President Buhari too has traveled to foreign trips with opposition governors and Senators before now but the make up of the entourage for the current trip casts doubt on the true intent of selecting these points men of Buhari for the FOCAC Summit in China.

"Our sources around the Presidency have also confirmed to us that the plot to perfect the plot to rig the 2019 elections and the removal of Bukola Saraki as Senate President is responsible for the exclusion of opposition elements from the current trip.

"In an official business trip to China where business opportunities abound, one will expect a tolerant government to travel along with foremost Nigerian businessmen and women and not party cronies or leaders of the APC’s cabal in the Senate like Senator Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Godswill Apabio who are anti-Saraki's leadership.

“The very composition of the entourage which include heads of elite security agencies, and top brass of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) - the money pot of the country - betrays the hidden agenda of the Presidency on this trip.”

Frank, however called on Nigerians, right groups and leaders of thought to speak up on how the current administration is using the country’s resources to fund private political meetings disguised as ‘official trip’ on how to subvert the rule of law, remove Saraki and undermine the nation’s democracy in a far away country.

Signed:
Comrade Timi Frank

Ike Ekweremadu, the deputy Senate President of Nigeria has said he could remain in the senate for the rest of his life if he so wishes, saying he's always in touch with his constituents, and could easily win elections.

He made this remark yesterday in Sheraton Hotel at a public dialogue organised by the NotTooYoungToRun movement, a youth group that successfully lobbied for the passage of a new law that reduced the age of qualification for political office across the country.

“I’m in total touch with my people and that is why if I want to remain in senate forever, I will” Ekweremadu told young aspirants on the platform of PDP.

“PDP is not a home for urban politicians, for young people. If you want to participate in politics, you have to pay your dues and the best place to pay your dues is your local community. That is where we all started from. Don’t think you will go to the House of Reps or House of Assembly by running around Wadada Plaza, it’s not going to work” he said.

UK Queen's counsel: "Nigeria cannot be trusted with looted funds"

Phillip Hackett gave his reservations by saying Nigeria cannot be trusted with its money, he further discloses that’s what underpins it poor asset return rate and it has to be addressed.

Philip Hackett, a Queen’s Counsel, said this is the reservations of the UK, when it comes to returning looted funds to Nigeria.

Speaking on the theme: ‘Institutionalising the War against Corruption – New Approaches to Assets Tracing and Recovery’, at the Annual General Conference of the NBA in Abuja on Wednesday, Hackett said the issues with accounting for the funds also contributed to the UK’s hesitation on returning looted funds.

He said: “How much money has been recovered? Practically nothing. Nigeria has recovered so little.

“The UK’s position is that Nigeria cannot be trusted with its money. That’s what underpins it (poor asset return rate), and it has to be addressed.”

The session was chaired by Professor Bolaji Owasanoye, Executive Secretary, Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), and featured the presence of Ibrahim Magu, the acting Chairman of the EFCC, who was represented by Chile Okoroma, EFCC’s Director of Legal and Prosecution Department

“Lawyers have been involved in money laundering; laundering of proceeds of crime. When they were asked to register with the Special Control Unit against Money Laundering (SVUML) for regulation, they went to court. NBA said it could regulate itself. But how far has NBA gone in regulating itself? That is the issue.

“I think the NBA Disciplinary Committee should be up and doing. I get embarrassed when NBA descends heavily on lawyers who are not considered to be significant, but they turn a blind eye to what big-time counsels are doing.

“I think they have to do their work without looking at faces, no matter whose ox is gored. That is the only way that we can have confidence and respect for the disciplinary committee.”
