"THE PRESIDENT NEEDS A TIME REST"- PRESIDENCY

The Presidency on Thursday assured Nigerians that there is no need for apprehension over the state of health of President Muhammadu Buhari.

It, however, said as eager as the President wanted to be up and about, his doctors have advised him to take things slowly.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, disclosed this in a statement he made available to journalists.

Shehu explained that Buhari’s absence at the Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, was a last minute decision; otherwise, the cabinet and the public might have been alerted in advance.

“As eager as he is to be up and about, the President’s doctors have advised on his taking things slowly, as he fully recovers from the long period of treatment in the United Kingdom some weeks ago,” he said.

While saying that the President himself on his return to the country made Nigerians aware of the state of his health while he was in London, Shehu said full recovery is sometimes a slow process, requiring periods of rest and relaxation, as the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, intimated in his press briefing after the FEC meeting on Wednesday.

He added, “Despite his lack of visibility, Nigerians should rest assured that President Buhari has not abdicated his role as Commander-in-Chief of Nigeria. He receives daily briefings on the activities of government and confers regularly with his Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

“His private residence, in which he has been spending the
majority of his time recently, also has a fully equipped office.

“God is the giver of life and health. We are grateful that He has seen our President through the worst period of his convalescence in London.

“We are thankful that the President has passed a number of benchmarks already. We pray that God continues to see him through this period of recuperation.”

Return Rivers State money said Sen. SEKIBO

Senator George Sekibo blowing a real whistle at a plenary session today after claiming that huge sums of money found at Osborne towers, Ikoyi lagos belonged to the Rivers state governme

the federal lawmaker got up at about 11.07 a.m to protest the refusal of the Federal Government to return the recovered $49 million at an Ikoyi apartment in Lagos to the Rivers State Government, brought out a whistle.

Sen. Ike Ekweremadu who was the presiding officer

could not stop him, he blew the whistle three times while calling on the Senate to investigate the issue. His plea, however, did not gain any support of his colleagues. Instead, Ekweremadu told him that since the case was already being investigated by the House of Representatives, there was no need for the Senate to commence the same exercise.

Instead, Sen. Ekweremadu urged Sen. Sekibo to pass a message to the Rivers State Government to send all necessary documents to the House of Representatives’ Adhoc committee probing the recovered money.

Reasons why Obasanjo did not support Jonathan re-election

former president Olusegun Obasanjo has revealed  why he didn't support the re-election of immediate past president, Mr. Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 presidential election.

Obasanjo gave his reason in a book, titled Against the Run of Play, written by Mr. Segun Adeniyi, Chairman of the Editorial Board of ThisDay Newspapers.

The book gives a detailed
account of what happened in the 2015 presidential election, is due for public presentation in Lagos on Friday.

The relationship between the former presidents, noted the author, had soured long before the election. Mr. Jonathan, whose political rise is widely credited to Mr. Obasanjo’s influence, had sought to make up with his presumed benefactor and keep him on his side for re-election. He arranged for a meeting with Mr. Obasanjo in his Abeokuta home.

Before leaving for the Ogun State leg of his campaign in January 2015 wrote the author, Mr.  Jonathan had concluded plans to visit Mr. Obasanjo, who had agreed to meet him.

Mr. Obasanjo, however, gave a condition: Jonathan must come along with someone of sufficient credibility to act as a witness at the meeting. Mr. Jonathan agreed to bring one along.

He approached the hugely influential General Overseer (GO) of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor EA Adeboye, who accepted to play the role of a witness.

But on the evening of 12 January 2015, the agreed date of the meeting scheduled for Mr. Obasanjo’s Hilltop residence in Abeokuta, Pastor Adeboye arrived in the company of Bishop David Oyedepo of Winners Chapel.

“It was only Pastor Adeboye that Jonathan told me was coming with him, but Bishop Oyedepo is a man I also know very well, so I had no problem with his presence at the meeting,” Mr. Obasanjo was quoted as saying.

The meeting, stated the author, was an unpleasant one for Mr. Jonathan, a man Mr. Obasanjo had assisted to become Vice President and then President. Mr. Obasanjo frontally told Mr. Jonathan that he was not going to support his re-election bid, saying he considered his performance as president sub-par and that he had acted less than honorably for reneging on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) zoning arrangement, which prescribed that it was the turn of the North to produce the president.

“I told him in the presence of his witness that I was not going to support him for a second-term and I gave my reasons. Aside the issue of zoning on which he was reneging, his stewardship up to that point had also shown very clearly that he was not up to the job,” Obasanjo reportedly said to the author in December 2016.

Mr. Obasanjo, according to the author, claimed to have nothing personal against Mr. Jonathan, explaining that his disagreement with him was based on certain principles on which he was not prepared to compromise.

“My decision was based on what would be for the good of Nigeria and since I didn’t consider Jonathan god enough, I told him to his face. What would I be afraid of?” asked Obasanjo.

The outcome of the meeting was a huge blow to Mr. Jonathan, who was initially billed to be on the ballot in February 2015 before the eventual postponement of the election. Mr. Jonathan, expectedly, left Abeokuta dejected.

The outcome of the meeting was the culmination of years of disdain, initially muted, with which Mr. Obasanjo held the Jonathan presidency. Signs of his irritation first manifested on 3 April 2012, when he resigned his position as chairman of PDP Board of Trustees.

Two months later, he delivered a wounding assessment of the Jonathan’s administration’s capacity to confront corruption.

On 15 June 2012, at a debate organized by the club De Madrid (an independent, non-profit organization comprising 80 former democratic presidents and prime ministers from fifty-six countries) in Geneva, Switzerland, Mr. Obasanjo laid into the Jonathan administration with full force.

“I haven’t seen that will of persistency and consistency in Nigeria because the people that are involved in corruption, they are strongly entrenched and unless you are ready to confront them at the point of even giving your life for it, then you will give in, that is the end of it,” he told BBC

Ritula Shah, moderator of the debate. Clever sniping by an accomplished verbal sniper. From then on, Mr. Jonathan was a sitting duck.

A year later, Mr. Obasanjo abandoned sniping for an all-out shootout. His first major target was the oil pipelines protection initiative of the Jonathan administration.

“This morning, on my way from Abeokuta by road, I was listening to the radio. I heard that the Jonathan administration said that they are going to set up an agency for pipeline protection. Now, what are the police there for? What are all the security agencies doing? This is another chop-chop,” Mr. Obasanjo said in Abuja during a thanksgiving ceremony to mark the 50th birthday of Dr.  Oby Ezekwesili, a former Minister of Education.

He sustained his attack with details of how he thought the Jonathan administration was not interested in accountability, noting that its handling of the Boko Haram insurgency indicated that if allowed to continue in power, Mr. Jonathan could fatally damage the country. “Jonathan and his people turned Boko Haram into an industry for making money. Rather than seek for solution, Boko Haram became an ATM machine for taking money out of the treasury. Take the issue of the Chibok tragedy. If he had acted within the first 48 hours, they would have found most of the girls. The CAN (Christian Association of Nigeria) Chairman of the local chapter in Chibok was here to see me and he explained how they were helpless with no reaction from the authorities for several days,” the book quoted Mr. Obasanjo as saying.

The author noted that Mr. Obasanjo had advised early in the life of the Jonathan administration that Jonathan, as president, needed to pay more attention to the Boko Haram insurgency, a counsel that was ignored.

In November 2012, the author stated, at a ceremony marking the 40th anniversary on the pulpit of Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, the then CAN President, Obasanjo suggested that the Jonathan administration was mishandling the challenge posed by the insurgency.

“My fear is that when you have a sore and you don’t attend to it early enough, it festers and becomes very bad. Don’t leave a problem that can be bad unattended…if you say you don’t want a strong leader who can have all the characteristic of a leader, including the fear of God, then you have a weak leader and the rest of the problems is yours,” he said at the occasion.

Mr. Obasanjo also accused Mr. Jonathan of clannishness and promotion of a form of Ijaw triumphalism, which he described as “sickening”.

“I once asked him: ‘What is this Ijaw thing all about? Can the Ijaw people make you president?’ I remember when he granted pardon to Alamieyeseigha (Diepriye, the former governor of Bayelsa State convicted for corruption) and it became an international embarrassment. I also asked him: ‘Why did you do it?’ He started by offering a lame excuse that it was a Council of State decision before I reminded him that Council of State was merely advisory and that the decision was his. After a while, he said if I was at the meeting, he probably would have acted differently because nobody opposed him on what he could do to address the problem. But it was either because he didn’t have the courage to broach the issue with Alamieyeseigha or he didn’t think it was important. he did nothing afterward,” Adeniyi reported Obasanjo as saying.

The author also noted that the public conduct of some Ijaw men such as ex-militant, Mujahid Dakubo-Asari, and a former Federal Commissioner for Information, Chief Edwin Clark damaged the image of Jonathan and that of his administration.

Mr. Adeniyi observed that the fact that Mr. Jonathan did not restrain them created the impression that he supported what they were saying and doing. For instance, in May 2013, recalls Adeniyi, Dakubo-Asari said Niger Delta militants would throw the country into chaos if Mr. Jonathan was not re-elected in 2015. Again, on September 9th,  2013, he declared that Jonathan’s presidential ambition in 2015 was already settled.

“The way things are going, there is no sitting on the fence in the battle before us… All of us will have to be in the ring and fight. 2015 is already a settled matter. Goodluck Jonathan would be president in 2015,” Dakubo-Asari declared.

A few days later, Chief Clark did the same, saying Jonathan would remain President in 2015 because it was not yet the turn of the North.

“In the Constitution of Nigeria, every president has two elections to be contested. (Alhaji Shehu) Shagari did it in1979 and 1983. In 1999, (Chief Olusegun) Obasanjo did it and 2003. In 2007, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua of blessed memory did it and if he had remained alive, he would have done it again in 2011. So, Jonathan has the right to contest again. This is an incumbent that has not done a second-term. It is not yet the turn of northerners. They have the right to contest as Nigerians. Yes, but in other parties,” said Chief Clark.

At the same occasion, the late Alamieyeseigha bragged: “Aso Rock is not vacant. The northern agitators will all, at the appropriate time, join the moving train. They may have their opinion, but I can assure you that President |Jonathan will remain as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria come 2015.”

The author equally observed that Mr. Obasanjo, was, on many occasions, the target of attacks by prominent Ijaw leaders and groups. This, states the author, was one of the reasons for his famous open letter to President Jonathan in December 2013. Titled, “Before it is too late,” Mr. Obasanjo’s letter accused Mr. Jonathan of pursuing selfish interest by destroying his own party, polarizing the country along regional and religious lines and ridiculing Nigerians globally. “For you to allow yourself to be ‘possessed’, so to say, to the exclusion of most of the rest of Nigerians as an Ijaw man is a mistake that should never have been allowed to happen. To allow or tacitly encourage people of Ijaw to throw insults on other Nigerians from other parts of the country and threaten fire and brimstone to protect your interest as an Ijaw man is myopic and that you are not openly quieting them is even more unfortunate,” wrote Mr. Obasanjo.

Obasanjo’s criticisms of Mr. Jonathan were a boon to the opposition, whose disparate bits were in the process of coalescing into the All Progressives Congress (APC) to be reinforced by the defection of some PDP governors.

Cleverly painting Mr. Jonathan as dishonorable, Mr. Obasanjo said Mr. Jonathan told him before the 2011 election that he would serve for a single term and made the same promise to governors, party stakeholders, and Nigerians.

“As a leader, two things you must cherish and hold dear, among others, are trust and honor, both of which are important ingredients of character. I will want to see anyone in the office of the presidency of Nigeria as a man and woman who can be trusted, a person of honor in worth and character,” Mr. Obasanjo stated.

He referred to the “gentleman agreement” of a single term brokered in 2011. “Up till two months ago, Mr. President, you told me that you have not told anybody that you would contest in 2015. I quickly pointed out to you that the signs and measures on the ground do not tally with your statement. You said the same to one other person, who shared his observations with me. And only a fool will believe that statement you made to me judging by what is going on. I must say it is not ingenious. You may wish to pursue more credible and honorable path,” Mr. Obasanjo added.

Mr. Jonathan responded in kind and his battle axes in the media went for Mr. Obasanjo, an indication that a full-blown war had been declared. An expert at milking situations, Mr. Obasanjo did not allow his former protégé any respite. Speaking at the Ake Arts and Books Festival in Abeokuta, he delivered a dim verdict on Mr. Jonathan when asked to rate his administration.

“I rate this current administration below average. When the head is rotten, the whole body is useless,” he said woundingly.

In what seemed an attempt to deflect the accusation that he yoked the country with the Jonathan presidency, the author quotes Mr. Obasanjo as saying Mr. Jonathan was not his first choice as running mate to the late Yar’Adua.

“It was Dr. Peter Odili. But whether by fate or by some conspiracy, Odili had hurdles that made it impossible for him to take the position. That was how I settled for Jonathan,” the former president is quoted as saying.

While admitting not knowing Yar’Adua and Jonathan well enough, he stated that you can only accurately gauge people’s capacities when they are given power and responsibility.

Obasanjo also rejected the notion that he knew that Yar’Adua was terminally ill before anointing him his successor.

“One, the lingering doubts about his health, while the other was a very pervasive allegation that he had a manipulative wife, who had too much influence on him,” the book quoted him as saying.

Mr. Obasanjo, however, said the accusation against Yar’Adua’s wife was out of jealousy, as she was close to the husband. On Yar’Adua’s health, Obasanjo told the author: “Not being a medical practitioner, I gave the report to a friend and a renowned professional in the medical field, who reviewed it, and told me the person in the report that he was not on dialysis, by which he meant either he didn’t have kidney problem or that he has successfully undergone a kidney transplant. That was the report I had about his health.”

Explaining why he endorsed Jonathan for the 2011 presidential ticket, following Yar’Adua’s demise, Mr. Obasanjo said: “I saw the emergence of Jonathan an opportunity to solve the problem of minority agitation. The three majority ethnic groups in Nigeria can always sort themselves out but not so for the minority. A good example is my state here in Ogun. Despite the best intentions, nobody from Ogun west has been able to become governor because of this minority issue and it will take a conscious effort to make it happen. So, it was in that context that I had to plead with prominent people in the north to allow Jonathan run for a term.”

Signs that Mr. Jonathan was not going to be a successful president, according to Mr. Obasanjo, manifested in certain actions the man took early in the life of his administration. One of such, he said, was the appointment of Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke as Minister of Petroleum Resources, an action he said he warned against and for which he received assurances was not going to be taken.

“He (Jonathan) gave me the impression that he was not going to give her the portfolio. At the end, he did and then we can see the consequences. He, of course, knew what he was doing,” he told the author.

Mr. Obasanjo’s rift with his protégé oiled the opposition machine operated by Mr. Muhammadu Buhari, behind whom many disaffected politicians, including from the PDP, were queuing. He, however, denied supporting Mr. Buhari.

“I didn’t join them in supporting Buhari, I joined in opposing Jonathan, so Buhari was just a beneficiary of my opposition to Jonathan since my position was AOBJ: Any Option But Jonathan,” he told the author.

He explained that Mr. Jonathan and his supporters thought they could buy the country. “They were so arrogant about it that the PDP will print only one nomination form for him and him alone. If he was wise, he would have yielded the ticket to somebody else in the PDP,” he stated.

The former president also depicted Mr. Jonathan as corrupt and lacking the capacity to deal with Boko Haram in his three-part book, My Watch.

This, observed the author, was hugely damaging to Mr. Jonathan’s profile and persuaded the US and Britain to lean towards Mr. Buhari, whom they believed was strong on those key issues. Ever the man to time his attacks well, Mr. Obasanjo, in January 2015, just a few weeks to the initial date of the election, accused Mr. Jonathan of squandering $25 billion crude oil savings left behind by his administration.

The crippling allegation was made when he hosted southwest women leaders at his residence in Abeokuta. “Our reserve after we had paid off the debt was about $45 billion. As I said, it continued till the end of 2007, I heard that the reserve increased to almost $67 billion before the end of the year. Our reserve now, I learned, is left with around $30 billion. That is why the naira has been falling against the dollar,” he said.

While he mentioned no name, he left his audience in no doubt the target of his barbs.

“In the profession, I know very well, the military, what we normally say is that there are no bad soldiers, but bad officers. If you see a situation where the soldiers are not doing very well, you need to examine the officers in charge. So, it is in the family, the community, the town and the country,” Obasanjo stated.

He followed it up with an advice to Nigerians to use their votes judiciously during the general elections. Mr. Jonathan created some breathing space for himself when, two days after the scalding from Mr. Obasanjo, his government rescheduled the elections by six weeks.

But again, Mr. Obasanjo stepped up his attack, accusing Mr. Jonathan of copying former Cote d’Ivoire president, Laurent Gbagbo, who kept postponing election so he could manipulate the process.

“It looks to me that the President is trying to play ‘Gbagbo’. I believe this is the sort of thing Nigeria may fall into if I am right in what I observed as the grand plan. We all remember that in the run-off Gbagbo lost with 8 percent behind Ouattara and then refused to handover. All reasonable persuasion and pleading was rebuffed by him and unleashed horror in that country until nemesis caught up with him,” Obasanjo said in London.

He equally expressed a dim view of the role of the military and security chiefs in rescheduling the elections.

“I believe the President’s concern or fear is not about life out of office per se, but he and I have had occasions to talk about this, both seriously and jovially. I believe the President’s fear is particularly motivated by the person he sees as his likely successor, that is General Buhari. I believe people must have been telling him that Buhari is a hard man and he will fight corruption and he (Jonathan) will end up in jail if not in the grave,” added Mr. Obasanjo.

The attack, unsurprisingly, got the Jonathan camp red-eyed. Spokesperson of the Jonathan Campaign Organisation, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode, accused Mr. Obasanjo of desperately wanting to see Mr. Jonathan defeated.

“He has raised issues and made assertions that are capable of derailing our democracy and creating chaos in the land. It is vital that we consider his motives for this latest outburst and his credentials as a leader and an elder statesman.  The truth is that he knows that President Jonathan will win the next month’s presidential election and that it why he wants to destroy the credibility of the whole process right from the beginning,” said Fani-Kayode.

Ultimately, observed the author, Mr. Obasanjo’s opposition to Jonathan’s re-election emboldened the opposition and suggested to many others that an incumbent could be defeated. He equally argued that Obasanjo helped to weaken Mr. Jonathan both within the PDP and in the general population of the country and convinced the US and Britain that the second term for Mr. Jonathan would be disastrous for Nigeria.

Also, Mr. Adeniyi reckoned that with Mr. Obasanjo’s weighty voice not being lent to Mr. Jonathan’s candidacy, big businesses, which are always backing the incumbent with billions of naira to the exclusion of the opposition, felt confident to support his opponent, Mr. Buhari.

“What this ensured was that for the first time in four attempts at the presidency, Buhari had enormous resources to campaign across the country in leased aircraft to an image makeover, hire entertainers for rallies, embarked on an expensive blitz and give a Jonathan a good run for his money. In the end, that went a long way in helping to tilt the scale in his favor,” wrote Adeniyi.

After school what next?

With the increasing number of graduates without job, it has become salient today for one to acquire a skill, or learn to be an entrepreneur other than waiting for the so cherished white-collar job.
From findings, statistics has shown that not up to 20 percent of Nigerian graduates are gainfully employed. This has become a huge problem as the Federal Government haven’t gotten a develop plan to take care of this issue.

And in circumstances where job is available it becomes a matter of who knows who, or if you will be willing to pay a huge amount required to get the job even when you are qualified.
When you are not able to pay, it is then given to the man with the money at that instant. So considering all this issues, I have decided to write this article to educate people on some job you can do without waiting to use your certificate.

The important thing here, is for an individual to be well acquainted or develop the right skill in line with his/her passion.
With no special order, I am going to list good paying job you can do without certificate.

All you need is to be creative, following the trend in hair making, and make your customer smiling when leaving.

3. FASHION DESIGNING / TAILORING
I need not to talk much on this, it speaks for itself. Fashion designing has grown in Africa especially Nigeria as our local designers are competing with their international counterparts.

It has grown to be a very big industry in Nigeria today, and it is open to all who wish to join.
It’s all about your creativity style and concept. I guess u will wish to be like YOMI CASUAL someday.

4. MAKEUP ARTIST

These days with different styles and concept, there are so many ladies venturing into this money making art. Some ladies are naturally gifted with this as they started from making themselves up

before monetizing it. If you are very good, you will not wait for big wedding and events to get a job. You can also be contracted to be someone personal makeup artist, you can work with

Things that made Efe won BBN

If you are following the trend on social media for the past few weeks, EFE has been on top of all trend list. We are today singing the praise song of Efe who was the winner of the grand finale of the BBN.
Yet we have failed to considered or learn from him, things that got him the victory. If you followed the BBN very well you will notice spectacular personality of the young man.
Right from the first day he stepped in the house, he has a special kind of charisma that attracts him to every member of the house.
He is an easy going person unlike TBOSS with so many complexity.
His audience and also his fellow house mates were able to see his true personality, he was able to represent where he came from, not hiding the fact he had a poor background.
He was able to ask questions on anything he knows nothing about and not pretending he knows all as Gifty did. you can get that from the testimonies of his fellow housemates especially Uriel who crushed on him.
He has this humble personality, which made him calm in treating issues arising in the house and carries everybody along in anything he does.
Despite he was the guy with so many ladies crushing on him, he was able to stay focus, determine and having in mind the most reason he came to the house unlike Kemen who lost focus chasing TBOSS.
Some people won’t agree with me on this one, but I must say he is a very talented person and he was able to show that anytime Debbie Rise is on her guitar.

MKO Abiola's son revealed who killed his father

The son of the acclaimed winner of the 1993 presidential election, Chief MKO Abiola has said that his father was betrayed by his own kinsmen.

Abdulmumuni said Abiola’s kinsmen literally killed him and shared his meat. Abiola is a native of Ogun State, south west Nigeria.

Abdulmumuni said the family was not interested in the clamour in some quarters that the late business mogul should be posthumously conferred with the title of the former president.

He said the title was of no use to the family and would not in any way bring back the late politician.

“Can you imagine? My father died in 1998 and we’re still discussing his death as if he died recently.

“I feel there was something my father was trying to do and the powers that be then didn’t want him to do that. What could that possibly be? What did MKO do to deserve that death? We want to know.”

He wondered why some people decided to kill his father who was only trying to make the country better.

“These were people from his own ethnic group; they cut him (Abiola) into pieces and shared his ‘meat’.

“The decision (to kill him) that they made back then, are they enjoying it now? We can’t go back in time but going into the future we can avoid making the same old mistake, which is the most important thing”, he said.

Asked if he was in support of the call that the late Abiola should be conferred with the title of ex-president in his grave, the son said the country had other better things to attend to than giving title to a man who was no longer alive.

His words, “That might just be a symbolic measure actually; my father has been long dead. What’s the point of giving him back his mandate when he’s no longer alive to accept it? They should keep the mandate.

“The country has more pressing issues to deal with. The country will be a better place if our leaders can apply their heads as well as hearts to lifting the majority of the people out of poverty, injustice, hopelessness, insecurity and corruption. There is so much rot in the country.” He said.

It will shock you to know what you consume as food

It will shock you to know some of the things we consume as food. Most of us don’t care to check the ingredient or the content of the product we buy before consumption. This is a common habit in Africa today, especially Nigeria, both the illiterate and literate are guilty of this act, that is why I am using this medium to draw to the notice of the general public of one of the world most common taken drink coca-cola.
Because of high sugar content in coke and increasing number of obesity, coca-cola company went on producing zero coke which seems to contain less sugar, but we have fail to consider what is use as substitution for sugar. Aspartame is what was use as a substitution for sugar, while some of us must have heard about it, most of us don’t know how dangerous it is.

Criminal activities going on at Eleme juction at night

If u reside within Port-harcourt or its environs  u will agree with me on this  piece.
one begin to wonder if the government is blind to increasing number of criminal activities going on there at night and yet seems not to be bothered or rather do anything about it.you will be amazed with the number of robbery going on there at night.
the little government could have done is to electrify the area and provide police security there at night. but funny enough the Government of Rivers State recently went on street light maintenance but the Eleme junction axis was not touch at all.not that the street light is not there but to provide power to it has become an herculean task to the Government. You want to wonder if those street light are just for fancy.
please share your experience of Eleme junction at night.hope the Rivers State Government will do something about it.

"Buhari is chronically ill".said Perry Brimah

Perry Brimah, popular columnist and convener of ‘Every Nigerian Do Something,’, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari is “chronically ill” and needs rest.

Brimah who gave in his  statement on Friday, claimed that the President was being locked up in Aso Rock by some “selfish cabal” instead of allowing him to attend to his health.

He flayed Nigerians for their seeming indifference to Buhari’s health status despite seeing his “asthenic figure…as he sat down for the Jumat service” with Kaduna State governor Nasir el-Rufai last Friday.

He wrote, “There can be no denying how chronically ill president Muhammadu Buhari looks when he does appear in public. The last time, was last week Friday when Kaduna State governor Nasir el-Rufai came visiting.

“The videos of Buhari walking to Friday prayers bring tears to eyes. His asthenic figure, now no more than skin-and-bones as he sat down for the Jumat service, was heart-wrenching.

“How can a people be so cold they expose a grandfather to this type of extreme stress and deprive him of his needed rest and medical attention by tasking him to lead the world’s most complex nation?

“Have we, as a people, lost our humanity that we continue to task Buhari like this and not campaign for him to be relieved of our burden and rest towards recovery?

“It is insane to continue to deprive him and the nation by locking him up and burdening him with a challenge too heavy for even a strong young man to bear, talk-less of an old man who just returned from a 49-day leave in which he received blood transfusions and unknown cocktails of serious medications…”

“It’s time for Nigerians to demand full disclosure of the true state of health of President Muhammadu Buhari…” he said.

Updates coming out from Edo tribunal

Pastor Ize Iyamu Approached the Appeal court again after the Edo Governorship Election
Tribunal judgement last week Friday  which was in favour of Godwin Obaseki.
While that is going on, governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, submitted an appeal at the Supreme Court against the decision of the Court of Appeal in the case at the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.

Obaseki, APC and INEC lost their application at the Court of Appeal where they sought to invalidate the recounting of ballot papers ordered by the Justice Badamosi led Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal at the Court of Appeal.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Benin City ruled that the tribunal was in order to have ordered the recounting and that the recounted ballots will go in issue in determining the case before the tribunal.

However the tribunal, in delivering judgement, curiously ignored the result of the ballot recount and ruled that the election result as declared by INEC is valid notwithstanding, in so far as the total number of voters did not exceed the total number of registered voters, even if it exceeded the total number of accredited voters.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Pastor Osagie Andres Ize-Iyamu, their candidate, have resolved to appeal this decision at the tribunal.

Governor Godwin Obaseki, is asking the Supreme Court to expunge the results of the recounted wards and units from the records of proceedings of the Tribunal.

The results of the recount showed wide disparity between INEC released results and the actual voting.

Legal luminaries in Nigeria as well as politically active citizens of Edo State are curious as to why Obaseki and APC who believe that they won the election as INEC result claimed, fight tooth and nail against having a complete recount or accepting the results of the partial recount.

This time around, they even approach the Supreme Court fighting against the result of the recount forming part of the record of proceedings.

Daniel Ogbegie Esq. , Head of Chambers of Ogbegie and Associates, a law firm in highbrow Akpakpava Street in Benin City queried the rationale for people mounting pressures on the PDP candidate from appealing the decision.

Ogbegie asked “Why is Obaseki and his APC putting pressure on Osagie Ize-Iyamu not to appeal the flawed judgement of the Tribunal when they themselves are appealing the part that didn’t favour them?”.

5 Big Brother housemates that will remain relevant for a long time

The Big Brother Naija 2017 show has come to an end. While the housemates are enjoying the super star status at the moment, only time will seperate the boys from the men and only those who have what it takes to take the entertainment world will be left standing. Here are the top 5 big brother housemates who will remain relevant in the entertainment industry for a long time to come.

1. Efe
Being the winner of Big Brother Naija opens several doors for you and that is exactly the case of Efe Eje who won the Big Brother Naija 2017. The moment he landed at the Murtala Mohammed International airport, the reception was least expected from him as he was mobbed by all and sundry.
Having said that, he needs to work on himself musically to make himself a better rapper because the Big brother Naija fame does not last forever except there's something to keep fanning it. Go and Ask Uti Nwachukwu and Ebuka.

2. Bisola
She is arguably the most talented housemate from the Big Brother house as she posses talent in Acting, music and overal entertainment. Considering the fact that she was a bit known before she went into the house, having participated in the MTN project fame in the past, the sky should be her starting point. The only think militating against her is her ppersonal character. She should consider working on that and she will go places.

3. TBoss
Despite being the most hated person in the house by Nigerians, TBoss possess the qualities to become a celebrity. First and foremost, the controversial disposition is a plus for her. Let's not forget her skin color and the way she carries herself. Brands will definitely fall over her to get her signature on paper. So, if you thought TBoss was going anywhere, be ready to be dissapointed.

4. Uriel
In terms of popularity, she was neither here nor there. But she was loved by those who understood her. She's one of the few housemates that have already started working immediately after leaving the house. She currently presented a program for peak milk and is currently working on her diary sessions on instagram which will further endear her to fans who have missed her interesting diary sessions.
Let's not forget that she is Charly boy's niece, so some strings will definitely be pulled.

5. Bassey
While other housemates were busy gallavanting after leaving the house, Bassey was already on location shooting a movie with Nollywood star, Ini Edo. This guy definitely has no chill. he understands the way the universe works and knows that their Big Brother celebrity status will wane with time and needed to get working to sustain his credibility. In Bassey, we see a future Nollywood star because he has all it takes plus he's a hardworker.

TSA: Nigerian government realises N7trillion

By Wale Odunsi

The Federal Government recorded over N7 trillion in the Treasury Single Account (TSA) towards the end of March 2017. Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Mr Ahmed Idris has said.

In an interview with the Economic Confidential in Abuja, Mr Idris further said the amount represents monies belonging to different Ministries, Departments and Agencies(MDAs) put in portal in such a way that government can view the entire balance as one.

“When we say we have over N5 trillion in TSA, it does not mean free funds for spending. No! no! no! These monies belong to various ministries, departments and agencies put in a portal in such a way that you can view the entire balance as one.

“The movement is now over N7 trillion. But as I explained earlier, these are not free money. People should not be thinking of why is government borrowing to fund budget. These are budgeted monies for MDAs for projects and developments,” he said.

He said that the federal government through the implementation of the TSA has saved additional N4 billion monthly which could have been held by banks, noting that a total collapse of government activities would have occurred if the TSA was not in place.

“But let me also make a strong and important point. If not because TSA is in place and now that the recession is here, only God knows what would have happened. A monthly drain of over N4 billion and yet no revenue coming in and leakages continued.

“It could have been a disaster. It was government’s foresightedness and focus even as TSA was in place before the recession. And that is why we are floating and not sinking, and we will not sink God willing,” he said.

“For instance, why would one university have over one hundred and twenty bank accounts, and some of them even hidden and missing and carrying huge balances. We also discovered that there are costs associated with keeping these multiple bank accounts. Every month the government incurs over N4 billion in maintaining these accounts.

“Yet Government is borrowing its own money. And to stop government from borrowing its money and for the fact that there was no commensurate returns on such monies, it was double tragedy! This is like a sword with two sides that can cut from any of the sides. Sanity was brought with the introduction of TSA.”

Speaking on the transparency in the disbursement of federation account monthly, the AGF noted that transparency and openness are key to the present administration, adding that It is a desire to institute discipline, good governance and trust. The government cannot be trusted if it says one thing and does another.

“The meager revenue that has been accruing is being judiciously used and there is fiscal discipline in management of public resources. Let me give you an example in the previous administration.

“There was a time state government kicked against savings. Now because what they know and being practiced by government of the day, they have decided to imbibe the culture of savings.

“We have excess Petroleum Profit Tax (PPT). These are excess taxes from petroleum tax. When we get money over and above budgeted figure, the excess is always being saved. If it were before, state governments and other stakeholders would say it should be shared. And this is what has been giving us buffer, especially at this time of recession.

“Despite the lean resources, we take from it and augment accordingly. And this is being done transparently. All the stakeholders are aware of balances at any point in time. Whatever revenue comes in is shown at National Economic Council meetings including all the governors who will be briefed by the Minister of Finance.

“They have seen the openness and have accepted what government has put in place and the economic team. This is why we are achieving remarkable success amidst recession”, he said.

Bid to prosecute Tony Blair over Iraq War 'to be blocked by Government'

Attorney General Jeremy Wright, who is a Cabinet minister, is reported to have formally asked to join the hearing and for the bid to prosecute Mr Blair and his senior ministers to be thrown out.

The private prosecution, based on last year's Chilcot Inquiry report, is being brought by a former chief of staff of the Iraqi Army, General Abdul-Wahid Shannan ar-Ribat.

It seeks to prosecute the former prime minister, his then foreign secretary Jack Straw and the attorney general at the time, Lord Goldsmith, for the crime of "aggression", according to legal papers seen by The Guardian newspaper.

His lawyers are seeking a fresh hearing after a judge ruled last year that Mr Blair had immunity from a criminal charge and that bringing a prosecution could "involve details being disclosed under the Official Secrets Act", according to the documents.

Attorney General Jeremy Wright is said to believe the case is 'hopeless'
Mr Wright, who is supported by the three former Labour figures, is said to believe the case is "hopeless" because the crime of aggression does not exist in English law, although it does exist in international law.

A spokesman for his office said: "It is not unusual for the Attorney General to intervene in cases in order to represent the public interest. He has sought to intervene in this case because it raises issues about the scope of the criminal law."

The case relates to the 2003 war, which the Chilcot report found was not a last resort after all peaceful options had been exhausted, and that the case for weapons of mass destruction was exaggerated.

Sir John Chilcot's report did not rule on the legality of the war, but families of some of the soldiers also called at the time of his report last summer for Mr Blair to face criminal charges.

Imran Khan, for General Ribat - who served until 2003 under Saddam Hussein and is understood to live in exile - said his client was "baffled as to why it is that despite the Chilcot report making it very clear that the war was illegal, attempts are below made to prevent those responsible from entering a court, let alone being prosecuted for what they did".

George W Bush and Tony Blair
Image:
Mr Blair's support of George Bush over Iraq dominated his later years as OM
Mr Khan added: "I really don't think it's a matter for the Attorney General. It sounds a rather defensive approach, one that wants to nip it in the bud, but it's a bit disingenuous as it should be left to the court to decide.

"It sounds like we're on to something here, otherwise why would the Attorney General want to get involved at this early stage?"

An application was made to Westminster Magistrates' court in November last year for a summons to be issued against Mr Blair.

But it was refused by district judge Michael Snow, who said: "Implied immunity as former head of state and government ministers, therefore offence not made out.

"Allegations involve potential details being disclosed under the Official Secrets Act for which attorney general and director of public prosecutions consent are required", the newspaper reported.

General Ribat's legal team, including Michael Mansfield QC, believe the judge was wrong to say the three senior ministers could not be prosecuted and that there are "overwhelming grounds" to challenge the decision.

In his pleading, Mr Wright said he wanted Parliament, not the courts, to make criminal laws and believes "the basis on which this claim for judicial review is mounted is hopeless".

Opponents of Mr Blair - including Alex Salmond and Jeremy Corbyn when he was a backbencher - have in previous years called for him to be put on trial for war crimes.

But the International Criminal Court does not rule on the decision to launch a conflict, only decisions made on the battlefield.

The court in The Hague has said the decision by the UK to go to war is "outside the court's jurisdiction".
