Dangers of fixing eye lashes

Dr Ayopo Adeyemi, warned women against the use of artificial eyelashes, commonly used to enhance beauty, in view of its grievous consequences.

Adeyemi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the health implications of fixing false eyelashes included corneal abrasions or ulcers, damage of the natural eyelashes, eye sensitivity, amongst others.

She said fixing of artificial eyelashes had become an increasingly popular trend in the fashion world as most ladies, regardless of the health implications, seek perfection and glamour.

According to her, natural eyelashes had its natural way of preventing dirt, sweat, bacteria and other foreign materials from entering into the eye by trapping and keeping out anything that comes near.

Adeyemi, a practitioner at Mushin General Hospital, Lagos, said false eyelashes would accommodate the dirt, thereby causing different forms of allergy and infections.

“The use of harmful chemicals on the eyelashes can cause them to fall out quicker than they naturally would and it is also dangerous when tools to be used come in close proximity to the eye.“Artificial eyelashes can cause trauma to the eye either through the glue and other materials used or unprofessional operators; there could be introduction of microbes into the eye causing conjunctivitis of all types.

“The lashes themselves can cause allergic conjunctivitis trapping and retaining dirt around the eye,” she said.

Adeyemi advised ladies to minimise the rate at which they fix false eyelashes if they must retain healthy natural ones.

A seal to perfect friendship

After a bad day, i walked into a bar to chill off and ordered for my regular and got something else instead, which was a "33" Export Lager Beer, so furious and I asked the barman while he got me a beer other than my regular, he said it was the only one available.

While reminiscing in my solitary state and sipping the ice cold "33"Export lager beer, someone move closely to me and was trying to get my attention, I reluctantly raised my head up and I saw this beautiful lady with her face looking like that of monalissa painting and her body akin to that of a Roman goddess .

She politely asked to sit closely to me and I answered no problem, she sat down and then began a conversation by saying she has been watching me while sitting from afar.

She spoke so calmly with such a dulcet voice that seems like that of a bird whispering and she said my facial expression and my body language tells that all is not well, if I would like to talk about it.

I couldn't not respond, my mouth was so dumb having to discuss my personal problem with a total stranger.

But she smooth talk me like a psychologist and later, I find my self in a deep conversation with her. moments after I got a soothing relief from the issues perturbing my mind.

After few hours of conversation she requested to go home, took my number and left.

I was still in shock when she left not having to take her phone number too. I waited for her calls all through the night.

When I got home with my cell phone placed closely to me on my bed, kept waiting for her call, for days run into weeks but it never came.

Exactly two weeks later, I got a call from a strange number, picked up and behold that dulcet voice from an unknown friend came up again.

I lost my phone and i only got to retrieve my SIM card today, thank God I did SIM backup, so I got your cell number back she said.

From that phone call, our relationship took a different dive and the end is that she is now the mother of my three kids.

From just sipping the "33" Eport Lager beer, I got a life partner and anytime I see those green bottles it reminds me of my first encounter with it, and has been my favorite green bottle after ward.

"33" Export Lager beer a seal to perfect friendship.

Five reasons why you should avoid bleaching your skin

1. Melanin is a complex polymer derived from the amino acid tyrosine and is responsible for determining skin and hair colour, depending on the concentration present. So the more melanin you have, the darker you will be.
Most skin-lightening treatments, which can reduce or block some amount of melanin production, are aimed at inhibiting it. Many treatments use a combination of topical lotions or gels containing melanin-inhibiting ingredients along with a sunscreen, and a prescription retinoid. There are a variety of chemicals used and they work in different ways but the most common ones as pointed out by Wikipedia.com fall into two classes those that inhibit melanin production and those that work in post-melanin synthesis.

2. KOJIC ACID is a by-product in the fermentation process of malting rice for use in the manufacturing of sake. Some research shows kojic acid to be effective for inhibiting melanin production, but it is an unstable ingredient in cosmetic formulations with Negative side effect: controversial research has suggested that kojic acid may have carcinogenic properties in large doses. Other further studies show that kojic acid is not carcinogenic, but can cause allergic contact dermatitis and skin irritation.

3. MERCURY- Many skin whiteners contain toxic mercury such as mercury (II) chloride or ammoniated mercury as the active ingredient. Negative side effect: Accumulates new skin and it can have the opposite results in the long term. Some studies suggest that long-term use could cause systemic absorption that leads to tissue accumulation of the substance. It was banned in Europe (1976) and in the USA (1990) for purpose of skin whitening.

4. TRETINOIN (also known as all-trans retinoic acid) is used mainly for skin discolorations. Negative side effect: Users of tretinoin have to avoid sunlight, as using tretinoin makes the skin more sensitive to UVA and UVB rays always and can have the opposite effect of darkening skin

5. HYDROQUINONE is a strong inhibitor of melanin production, meaning that it prevents dark skin from making the substance responsible for skin colour. Negative side effect: It has been banned in some countries (e.g. France) because of fears of a cancer risk. Hydroquinone has been shown to cause leukaemia in mice and other animals.

How to know you are been watched when using a public toilet

these days our privacy is no longer respected, as most of our private affairs is been prey in to.

We all use public bathrooms or stay in hotel rooms, and not to scare you, but do you really know who is watching you while you're going about your business?

Technology moves at the speed of light with new products and gadgets meant to make our lives easier, but there is also a dark side — one you might not even realize you're seeing until it's too late. There are people looking to prey on others by engaging in criminal activity, and it can be as easy as installing a hook.

There's this hook, as simple as it looks, it has a camera install inside.

so watch out for this when next you visit a public toilet.

What you need to do when discouraged in life

Life indeed is not a bed of roses but that shouldn't scare you from living.
Life is in phases, once you get pass one level, then you have automatically unlock the door to another level, it is just an endless cycle of challenges but the beautiful thing is that you get stronger and prepared for the greater task ahead and the rewards.

These rewards which comes in wealth, happiness, peaceful heart, fame, success and having a fulfilled life you once dreamt of are most times the evidences of our resilient struggle, our patience and ardent belief.

I'm here to spur you up not to get discouraged in life in achieving your dreams. Don't get discouraged because of people who don't believe in your vision or by already successful people in the same field you are in.

Sometimes you get too scared that you aren't going to make it like others when you get to see their achievements and how far they have gone. It is a false notion that should be thrown away.

Let me use the aquatic life anology for proper illustration.

There are so many predators in the sea,  ranging from the sperm whale, sharks, leopard seals, polar bears, sea lion yet smaller fishes like tillipia fishes, pygmy sea horse ,cherubfishes and the rest of them do survive yet in the same water.

Don't be scared of great height, continue in your good works.all you need is one big giant stride that will push you over the cross line.

The sky is wide enough to have all our stars up hanging there, don't give up on yourself.

Tinubu commends Fayose and Eleka after Ektiti state election

National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has commended Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in Saturday’s election in Ekiti, Prof Kolapo Olusola Eleka.

He said although the APC candidate, Dr Kayode Fayemi, won the election, Fayose and Eleka deserved commendation as they did not attempt to subvert the will of the people or plunge the state into violence.

Tinubu made this known in a Sunday statement through through his media aide, Tunde Rahman.

He said, “I would be remiss if I did not say a good word about the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Prof. Olusola Kolapo Eleka.

“He conducted a tough and energetic campaign. He wanted this seat but, in the end, he did not resort to violence to get his way.

“He allowed the people to make their own decision and for his adherence to this democratic principle, he should be recognised.

“The same must be said of Gov. Ayo Fayose. He tried his utmost to bring his candidate to victory but he did not cross the line by trying to subvert the will of the people through violent means.”

Tinubu in the statement titled “Ekiti Election: A Victory for the People”, lauded Ekiti people for throwing their weight behind the APC and its candidate, Dr Fayemi

He therefore urged the governor-elect to justify the confidence Ekiti people reposed in him.

”Dr Fayemi must keep in remembrance that the people have placed their future in his safekeeping and he must justify their trust in him by doing all he can do to advance their welfare.

“I’m confident that Fayemi will keep faith with the programmes and policies of our party in order to improve the lives of the people of Ekiti.

“I know Fayemi will establish an all-inclusive government that involves all stakeholders in his administration and in the governance of the state.”

He noted that, ”In Ekiti, a chapter has closed and a new one has begun. This was not done by contrivance or artifice, nor was it the product of intimidation or improper influence.

“This came about because it was the will of the people of Ekiti as expressed and manifested in the conduct of a free and fair election in that state. In voting as they did, the people thus voted for themselves.

“Here, we must congratulate Dr Kayode Fayemi and our party, the APC, for the successful campaign that was run and for the confidence the people of Ekiti have shown in transferring the mandate to govern them into our hands.”

Tinubu added, “Dr Fayemi is a man of integrity and his government will not be one of recrimination. It is a government of the people and as such will focus its attention on helping the people, not suppressing yesterday’s political opponents.
“I urge Gov. Fayose and Prof. Kolapo Eleka, as prominent citizens and leaders of Ekiti, to move forward in that same spirit. Let there be an orderly transition from the outgoing to the incoming government.

“Last and most importantly, let us commend the people of Ekiti. Casting aside all the dire predictions, they conducted themselves with the patience, sobriety and collective wisdom befitting the moment.

“Instead of turning things upside down, they turned to peace and mutual respect for each other as well as respect for the democratic process.

“Above all else, the election was your election and yesterday was your day! With the choice that you have made, may tomorrow also be your best future.”

Obasanjo vows to lead coalition to remove Buhari

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, on Saturday, vowed to lead the coalition that would unseat President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.

The former President, however, advised the 39 political parties and associations, which signed a Memorandum of Understanding in a grand alliance ahead of general elections last Wednesday, to be cautious of external forces which he believed might want to destabilise the arrangement.

Obasanjo spoke during a closed-door meeting with a 21-man team, led by the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Uche Secondus, which visited him in Abeokuta on Saturday.

The meeting was held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, the Ogun State captial.

Among those at the meeting were the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the PDP, Senator Walid Jibrin; a former Deputy National Chairman of the party, Chief Olabode George; a former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola; and members of the National Working Committee of the PDP.

A source at the meeting, who spoke with one of our correspondents on condition of anonymity, said the ex-President told the gathering that he was ready to lead the coalition that would sack Buhari in the 2019 presidential election.

The source added, “The former President asked the attendees (at the MoU signing) to get ready for a fight in 2019 and that he is ready to lead the coalition.

“He told us that it would not be a tea party, and that we should be ready to field a single presidential candidate and that all others would line up behind such candidate.

“He also warned us against saboteurs and that we must be ready to make sacrifices.”

It was also gathered that the former President told his visitors why he left the PDP.

According to multiple sources at the meeting, Obasanjo said he left the former ruling party when a sitting governor was busy abusing him and the leaders of the party refused to caution him.

“He said he decided to leave because the governor (name withheld ) was abusing him and we refused to caution him. He said the governor was also mobilising people to remove him as the chairman of the BoT. He said he decided to leave when we didn’t do anything about these,” the source added.

However, the media aide to the ex-President, Kehinde Akinyemi, in a statement after the meeting, quoted Obasanjo to have advised his guests that all members of the political parties in the PDP-led alliance “must be cautious of fake news, rumours, blackmail and seeds of discord that may be sown among them from external quarters.”

The PDP, African Democratic Congress, the Reformed All Progressives Congress and 36 other political parties had, last week, signed a MoU to forge a grand alliance ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Obasanjo, who expressed confidence in the arrangement, advised that the individuality and independence of each political party must be respected by all parties concerned.

He had added that “it is also desirable that in the process of implementing the MoU to achieve the set objective, solidarity and focus on the objective must be maintained.

“The MOU for grand alliance is what it says – a grand alliance. It is not a merger nor an absorption of any political party by any political party.”

According to the statement, in the delegation were some members of the NWC of the PDP, who apologised to the former President for the way he was treated by the former ruling party.

While the former President told them he would no longer play partisan politics, he stated that his doors would remain opened to those who might need his advice on the way to move the country forward.

While speaking with journalists after the meeting, Secondus said though Obasanjo was no more a member of the PDP, his advice would help the party as the 2019 elections draw near.

He said, “Obasanjo is a national leader in this country. He is a father of the nation. So, we came to consult him. Our deliberation, although a little bit private, is connected to the 2019 polls.

“Yes, it is true Baba is no longer a member of the PDP, but he is a father of the nation. I believe that regardless of political parties, his direction is highly needed now to rescue Nigeria.”

George equally said the grand alliance was needed to rescue the country from the precipice, saying good managers were needed to manage the affairs of the country better.

Cameroonian president announced his reason for seeking his seeventh term in office

Cameroon President, Paul Biya has recently announced his intention to run for re-election.

Biya explained that he wants to contest again because the people urged him to do so.

“I am willing to respond positively to your overwhelming calls. I will stand as your candidate in the upcoming presidential election,” Biya said in a tweet on Friday.

The October 7 election comes amid separatist insurgency in the western English-speaking regions and dwindling economy.

Biya scrapped the Central African country’s term limits from the constitution in 2008.

He came to power in 1982 when his predecessor retired and a seventh term in office could see the 85-year-old rule into his 90s.

Only Equatorial Guinea’s President, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo has ruled uninterrupted for a longer period.

Former Zimbabwe President, Robert Mugabe (1980 – 2017) and Gambia’s Yahya Jammeh (1994 – 2017) were ousted in 2017.

Baby with abnormal mass attachment undergoes successful surgery sponsored by the wife of the Abia state governor

The First Lady of Abia State, Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu,

through her Vicar of Hope foundation extended her milk of human kindness by intervening in a pathetic case of a two month-(plus)-old baby; Favour Obinna Ndidi who was born with an abnormal mass attached to the back of her head, medically known as encephalocele.

Mrs. Ikpeazu actually intervened through sponsoring the baby's surgical treatment by the Neurosurgical Unit of the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia. The Doctors have confirmed that the baby is making progressive recovery in line with their expectations. Kudos to the Neurosurgical Unit of FMC, Umuahia, for a job well done.

By this intervention, the baby has definitely joined in the numerous number of those who have benefited from Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu's leadership in Abia State.

It is also the prayer of the beneficiaries of the benevolence of Mrs. Ikpeazu that God may reward her very abundantly. Of course, God Almighty would sustained her blessing for her because, the scriptures say that blessed are the merciful for they would obtain mercy.

Trader who possess as a doctor to treat heart disease caught

Mercy Duru Ezinne,a food stuff trader who impersonated as a medical doctor with the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Abeokuta, Ogun State, perfected her plans to fleece a patient with heart challenges of millions of naira.

It was earlier reported that 35-year old Mercy, whose only educational qualification was a certificate in auxiliary nursing, had allegedly collected the sum #400,000 from one Mr Hassan Olawale, for treatment and further promised to take him to her German doctor in Accra, Ghana, for a heart transplant, on the payment of 10million naira.

A source from the FSARS, where the suspect is being detained who disclosed the story to the media said that the suspect deposed to had been able to secure a man willing to donate his heart to Hassan, after being involved in a train accident, but would only do so at a cost of 4million naira. After which she will arrange to have him moved to Ghana to be operated upon by her German doctor friend with a machine that she would import from America.

While this was going on, the source stated that one Dr. Raji of FMC, who had previously been involved one way and another in Hassan's case, became suspicious of the "woman doctor" and alerted operatives of FSARS, who trailed and successfully apprehended her.

Dr. Raji explanation;

"About three weeks ago, I received a phone call from a patient being managed for congestive cardiac failure and was on requisite medications.

"The patient subsequently asked me to speak with his friend, a certain "Dr Mercy" ( Mercy Duru), who asked about the details of the patients health, particularly with respect to getting or need for a heart transplant; this was countered as the patients condition was not deemed to have deteriorated to the extent to need such measures.

"The said Dr Mercy adamantly insisted on the need for a transplant and also to get a life support machine as well. At this juncture, I proceeded to explain to "Dr Mercy" that heart transplants were different from other paired organ transplants, I also told here that centre's for heart transplants were not available in Nigeria. "I took the pains to also explain the getting heart transplant done outside the country requires him being on a list which will be determined by his clinical status and other parameters as well. I concluded by telling her that with strict medication adherence and life style modification, he can live a meaningful life. "Dr Mercy" then asked if heart transplants can be as expensive as 10million naira, which I replied in the affirmative, and may even be more than that if the patient eventually requires it."I never heard from the patient again until after about 2weeks.

He called telling me he was in respiratory distress and was having cough, which prevented him from sleeping. He told me he was in a popular hotel (he had secured a temporary abode and wanted to see me). On getting to the place, he was in respiratory distress and narrated how "Dr Mercy" had been treating him in the previous two weeks. She asked him to do some investigations at her choiced laboratory, claiming all the previous ones he did, even at the government hospital, were irrelevant.

"After presenting the results, she asked him to pay for certain medications notably Rocephine(a 3rd generation cephalosporin), zoladex(an anti sex hormone used for treating patients with prostate cancer and breast cancer). He narrated how she had given him intravenous ceftriaxone intramuscular, leaving him with severe pains in the lower limbs for days. "Dr Mercy" also gave him lots of intravenous fluids, a relative contraindications in his state worsening his clinical conditions and had him transfer the sum of 400,000, naira to procure some drugs", Dr. Raji revealed.

According to Dr. Raji, Mercy later called the victim, telling him that she had been able to secure a man willing to donate his heart, after being involved in a train accident, but would only do so at a cost of 4million naira, after which she would arrange to have him moved to Ghana to be operated upon by her German doctor friend with a machine that she would be importing from America.

"He was evacuated from the hotel and admitted in the hospital where proper medical attention was instituted, during which Mercy kept on calling the patient and threatening that she will cancel the heart transplant if he fails to remit the 4million naira she requested for.

"I later arranged with the patient to get the so called Dr mercy arrested so as to prevent others from falling victim of her scheme. I informed the FSARS, Ogun State, some of their men started trailing her. Attempt at getting her arrested proved abortive as she was never at home and we were informed that she had started parking her belongings from the apartment.

"The patient was then asked to place a call to Mercy, pleading with her to come to the hospital and rescue him, and that the treatment he was being given was not working for him. Dr mercy was very annoyed that he had to seek medical attention from another hospital. She reluctantly came to the hospital in the company of her driver and two other...

the referee to stop a game in the last minute so he could tie-up his pair of Puma's and create vital promotion for the Puma brand. He knew the cameras would be on him and so did Puma. And they wanted the cameras to focus on his football boots.

Barbara Smit, in her book "Three Stripes Versus Puma", states that PUMA employee Hans Henningsen paid Pele $120,000 to wear Pumas..

Pele, born Edson Arantes do Nascimento, is a Brazilian footballer who is widely regarded as the greatest player to play the game. Pele is the winner of three FIFA World Cups: 1958, 1962 and 1970. Pele scored over 1000 goals and played for two clubs: Santos and New York Cosmos.

Stereotyping another form of racism

The war against racism which began over centuries ago which seems to have be defeated has taken another form.

The believe that some group of people from the same ethnic group or region are thesame is a prejudicial thinking that is affecting the world today.

This act known as stereotype is seen among people of the same race, especially in Africa where some people are seen as an out Caste.

In the eastern part of Nigeria there is a belief known as the Osu caste system, it's such a debasing act to humanity.

As an Osu,  you are seen as a slave who can not be crown king or even allowed into certain position in the society.

Same applicable to different cultures in Africa.

It is even more surprising as the so called elites and highly educated people are involved in such act.
I too have gotten a fare share of this shameful act.

I was opportune to school in one of the eastern university in Nigeria. NNAMDI AZIKIWE UNIVERSITY AWKA.

As a young fellow from the Niger-Delta region we are seen by the easterners as Agitators, militant and people who don't  like to do anything because of the rich oil deposit in our region.

This is a clear example of a single story single , there are still lots of people out there suffering from the dangers of the single story.

Those of whom, who because of where they from cannot gain employment, those of who because of their religion cannot be award contract, those of whom who because of their social class are denied access to wealth.

The list is endless, I just want to beg my fellow African brothers and sisters, we shouldn't let the long struggle against racism and stereotyping by our founding fathers go to waste.

We are human and created equal, so stop stereotyping today.

Northern leaders in disagreement over President Buhari re-election

News making the round as reported by
Godwin Isenyo , Kaduna shows there is a serious disagreements between the Northern elites over President Buhari re-election campaign.

The leadership of the Arewa Youth Forum on Monday said President Muhammadu Buhari does not deserve any endorsement for the 2019 presidency .

Reacting to a purported endorsement by some serving All Progressives Congress's lawmakers from the Northwest in Kaduna , the AYF’s National President , Alhaji Gambo Gujungu, said Buhari was not fit to return as president in 2019 .

The AYF argued that with the killing spree all over the country, especially in the North, Buhari should serve his mandatory four years term and quit the stage for another Northerner .

Gujungu noted that one sour point about President Buhari’s 2019 ambition was his claim that the killings across the country were being carried out by “desperate politicians ”, yet he had not arrested even a single suspect .

The AYF president, therefore , said Nigerians should blame the president for the attacks on innocent citizens.

The AYF boss who spoke to our correspondent on phone on Monday , said the President’s claim that the killings under whatever guise was caused by desperate politicians, “shows that the president knows them(killers ). ”

He said : "Nigerians should hold President Buhari responsible for the killings because he made it clear in one of his speeches that it was desperate politicians’ that are responsible for the herdsmen killings .

“ Being the Commander - in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, the bulks stops on his table . It is important , therefore , for him to fish out the desperate politicians as a matter of urgency .

“ Therefore, to allow the president to come in 2019 will spell doom , not only for the North but the entire country.

“This is not 2015 when we said North versus the South . This is not APC or PDP affairs .

“ We have enough Presidential aspirants in the North that are capable and not Buhari again .

“ Buhari should just honourably leave the stage in 2019 so that the North can regain its lost glory . ”
On Sunday, the lawmakers from the Kaduna, Kano ,

Katsina, Kebbi, Jigawa, Sokoto and Zamfara States at the inauguration of local
coordinators for the ‘ Northwest Young Parliamentarians in support of Buhari /Osinbajo 2019 , ’ had said that the President had done so well in the areas of security , infrastructure development and deserved to return and complete the good job he started .

The serving lawmakers and dignitaries who attended that event are, the Senate Committee Chairman on police Affairs , Abu Ibrahim (Katsina South constituency) Senator Jibril Barau (Kano North Constituency ), Senator Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central Constituency ) and the Chief Whip of the House of Representatives , Alhassan Ado Doguwa , Samaila Sulaiman , a House of Representatives member from Kaduna , Garba Datti Mohammed from Kaduna’ s Sabon Gari Federal constituency.

lawmakers also present include Saidu Yusuf Miga of Jahum/ Miga Federal Constituency in Jigawa, Hussaini Sulieman Kangiwa (Arewa /Dandi /Federal constituency , Sokoto ) , Ahmed Baba Kaita( Kankia/Ingawa /Kusada Federal Constituency , Katsina), Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Aminu Shagali and Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Aliyu Sabiu Muduru .
Kaduna State Governor , Mallam Nasir El - Rufai, was represented by his Deputy , Barnabas Bala Yusuf . President Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on National Assembly Matters , Sumaila Kawu , Minister of Interior , Gen . Abdurrahman Danbazzau (retd ) who was represented by his son , Shamsudeen Bello and a former governor of Zamfara State, Mahmud Shinkafi were also present .

Goodnews as AIDS vaccine passes early key test

Scientists has recently announced that a candidate AIDS vaccine which triggered an immune response in humans and shielded monkeys from infection, has passed its key early test.

Scientists who has been tirelessly working on this vaccine for over a decade now seems to got an improved results as it passes an early key test.

The AIDS vaccine which is an output of a 40-year quest for an AIDS cure, proved to be safe in humans and has now advanced to the next phase of the pre-approval trial process. It will now be tested in 2,600 women in southern Africa to see whether it prevents HIV infection.

Though the trials so far has been encouraging, the research team and outside experts warn there are no guarantees it will actually work in the next trial phase dubbed HVTN705 or “Imbokodo” — the isiZulu word for “rock”.

“Although these data are promising, we need to remain cautious,” study leader Dan Barouch, a Harvard Medical School professor, told AFP.

Just because it protected two-thirds of monkeys in a lab trial doesn’t mean the drug will protect humans, “and thus we need to await the results of the… study before we know whether or not this vaccine will protect humans against HIV infection,” he said.

The team also disclosed that the results of the Imbokodo trial are expected in 2021/22.

“This is only the fifth HIV vaccine concept that will be tested for efficacy in humans in the 35+ year history of the global HIV epidemic,” added Barouch.

Only one so far, RV144, yielded some protection. RV144 was reported in 2009 to reduce the risk of HIV infection among 16,000 Thai volunteers by 31.2 percent — deemed insufficient for the drug to pursued.
